Pattan: The only Trauma Hospital in North Kashmir’s Pattan town, on which construction began way back in 2002 is yet to become operational.

Due to unnecessary delay, this Trauma Hospital has failed to meet its purpose to treat the emergency accidental victims given the fact that Srinagar-Muzzafarabad highway is prone to road accidents.

The hospital site is spread over 40 kanals of land near SDM office Pattan while this hospital is being constructed at an estimated cost of more than Rs 60 crores.

“It was a dream of late Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed who visited thrice here and assured people that it will be constructed within shortest span of time. It has been 16 years and the hospital is still not operational,” said locals of Pattan to news agency CNS adding that it has missed so many deadlines while government is not bothered  to make the concerned agency accountable.

Last year on May 15, 2017 Chief Secretary, B B Vyas along with Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Rohit Kansal, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, and other senior officers visited the said hospital to review the progress of work. At that time Chief Secretary assured that the said hospital will be made functional soon but unfortunately the assurance of chief Secretary also proved a lip service.

Following the public outcry, Minister for Public Works Naeem Akthar last year in May also visited the site and had claimed that the trauma centre would be completed by the end of June 2017.

“Authorities have not installed a single machine inside the building and yet they claim hospital is ready to function,” said the locals. (CNS)
