Appeal GoI to release detainees in wake of looming Coronavirus threat

Tral : Several parents staged a silent protest outside the office of Assistant Development Commissioner Tral here in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.
The protesting parents assembled outside the office and demanded the release of their sons who have been lodged in different jails of India.
These parents were carrying placards and banners seeking immediate release of their sons in wake of looming Covid-19 threat.
There are dozens of people from Tral’s different villages who are languishing in different jails. Most of them were arrested after the abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir in August last year.
“My son Shabir Ahmed lodged outside jail and we are worried for his health,” said the mother of Shabir Bhat who hails from Kamla Tral.
The mother of another detainee Ajaz Ahmed Bhat from Laribal Tral also demanded the release of her son. She said they are not in touch with Ajaz, after Covid-19 disease created havoc across globe.
The family of Faroz Ahmed Bhat from Awantipora said that their son completed his life sentence in 2014 and yet he is not being released. “My son was arrested in 2003 and right now he has been languishing in Mandoli Jail,” said his mother.
Scores of youth from Tral are still under detention. After the abrogation of special status in Jammu and Kashmir hundreds of people were arrested and lodged in different jails. Over 200 people from Kashmir are alone lodged in Uttar Pradesh Jails.
The protesting families appealed Government of India and Narendra Modi to release these prisoners on humanitarian grounds. (KNT)
