Srinagar : A Corporator whose brother concealed travel history and was declared positive for Covid-19 has put people including top guns of Srinagar Municipal Corporation in danger. There is panic in the Corporation after the news spread that the Corporator who was living with his infected brother was also part of the multiple sanitation drives.
Insiders told KNT that the brother (name withheld) of Corporator Majid Shuloo (ward Kawdara) after arriving in Valley had concealed his travel history and was living with his family including his Corporator brother.
Sources said that it were neighbours who informed district administration Srinagar about the Corporator’s brother and immediately after that he was put in quarantine on 28 April, four days ago. His samples were taken and he was tested positive.
The development created panic in Srinagar Municipal Corporation because the Corporator brother of infected person was seen only yesterday with top guns of SMC including Mayor Junaid Azim Matuu, Deputy Mayour Parvez Qadri, District President BJP for Srinagar Arif Raja, Corporator from Nishat Aquib Renzu, Private Secretary to Mayor Sheikh Firdous and other staff members.
“The Corporator whose brother has been tested positive was part of the sanitation drives across Srinagar city. Little did, we know, he was living with his infected brother and had concealed travel history of his brother.
This is shocking to us and unfortunately some people who always worked in field have been forced to quarantine themselves,” said a Ward Officer to KNT wishing anonymity.
He said there is a dire need to identify the contacts of this Corporator. “It will really be a disaster if God forbid, this Corporator tests positive.”
Meanwhile, the family members of the infected person including the Corporator have been put under quarantine. Their samples have been collected and test reports are awaited.
Pertinently, this development forced District Development Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Chowdary to come up with a tweet asking people to be responsive and truthful. He tweeted that Covid fight belongs to citizens and they should be alert, responsive and truthful.
Without naming the infected person or his Corporator brother, DDC Srinagar wrote that a person was flagged by neighbours who arrived clandestinely. “Let us not rush, rather follow protocols,” he tweeted and declared Narwaraeidgah area as Red Zone. (KNT)
