Jammu: Pakistani troops faced heavy casualties after the Indian Army retaliated strongly to an unprovoked ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district, officials reported on Wednesday.
The ceasefire breach comes just a day after an IED explosion near the LoC in Jammu’s Akhnoor sector, which claimed the lives of two Indian Army personnel, including a Captain.
According to officials, Pakistani forces initiated unprovoked firing at an Indian forward post in the Tarkundi area of the LoC, prompting a fitting response from the Indian Army. Reports indicate that the enemy suffered heavy casualties, though exact figures were not disclosed. The Indian Army has yet to confirm or deny these claims.
Meanwhile, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army sustained minor injuries after accidentally stepping on a landmine during a routine patrol along the LoC. The officer, a resident of Mendhar, was immediately evacuated to a military hospital for treatment.
Tensions Escalate Along LoC Amid Multiple Cross-Border Incidents
Tensions along the LoC have been on the rise, with four cross-border incidents reported in the last five days.
On February 10, an Indian soldier was injured after being hit by a bullet from across the border while stationed at a forward post in the Kalal area of Nowshera (Rajouri district).
On February 8, an Army patrol came under terrorist fire from a forest across the LoC in Rajouri’s Keri sector, in what appeared to be an infiltration attempt.
On the night of February 4-5, a landmine explosion in the Krishna Ghati sector reportedly led to casualties among infiltrating terrorists.
Amid the increasing hostility, Lieutenant General Navin Sachdeva, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the White Knight Corps, visited forward areas in Rajouri on February 10 to review the security situation. Accompanied by senior military officials, he commended the troops for their vigilance and urged them to stay prepared for any contingencies.
The situation along the LoC remains tense as the Indian Army continues to maintain a high state of readiness against potential threats. (Inputs with PTI)
