SRINAGAR: Overcrowded classes, crouched spaces, extensive class work is how coaching centers are operating in the valley, with authorities saying that they are trying to streamline the sector.
A group of students while talking to Press Trust of Kashmir said that the centre was constructing a new building for housing the coaching center and washrooms facility were lacking at the present facility.
Mahreen Farooq, a class 12 student of a coaching centre in uptown Srinagar, said that teachers impart lectures on microphones to about 250 students and continuous exposure to the loud sound does not allow her to concentrate on studies.
Another student Danish Nabi a student at another coaching centre also complained about the lack of space in tuition center.
Students alleged that the tuition centers have become money minting machines. “All they worry about is filling up their classes with students. They are no longer concerned about performance of students,” said Amir Bashir, a class 12 student.
In Downtown area of Srinagar students face similar problems with coaching centres operating without fulfilling the parameters set by the authorities.
Like in other parts of the valley, the centres in downtown are overcrowded, and government teachers are clandestinely employed to teach.
The students alleged that the centres were only interested in increasing the roll not to teach students.
Government teachers are also barred from teaching at these centres. But sources confirmed told Press Trust of Kashmir that the lecturers of Higher Secondary School are teaching at coaching centers during office hours and Government is a mute spectator.
When contacted G N Var, President of Coaching Centres Association, he told Press Trust of Kashmir that it’s the serious issue and government should take tuition/coaching centre on board. He added that government should make a mechanism where students can study easily in tuition centers. (PTK)
