15 persons detained in Srinagar
Srinagar : Police detained 15 devotees for offering Friday congregational prayers at a mosque here near DC office Srinagar.
Sources told Kashmir News Trust that dozens of people offered congregational prayers at a mosque in Tankipora area. As the police came to know about the development, they swung into action and arrested 15 people for violating prohibitory orders. A large number of people present in the mosque managed to escape from the spot.
A police official said that people were detained for putting the lives of others at risk.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses told KNT that over 300 people offered Friday congregational prayers at a Jamia Masjid in Watrina area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Witnesses added that people assembled inside the mosque and didn’t make use of public addressing system. They all offered prayers inside the mosque.
SSP Banipora, Rahul Malik said he would look into the matter and if report proves correct, strict action will be taken against the violators. (KNT)
