Srinagar : In a spooked panicky scenario, Plasma therapy came in front as a silver lining to combat Covid 19 pandemic as the plasma from the recovered patients provides immunity to the ailing patients to fight the novel virus and help them recover.
In a new development, a 49 years old patient from Delhi on Sunday has completely recovered after being treated with convalescent plasma therapy. According to reports, family of the 49 years old man arranged a donor who was recovered from Covid19 three weeks ago.
Talking to Kashmir News Bureau, a senior Doctor said, “Plasma therapy can play an important role in treating a critical covid 19 patient-One donor can donate 400 ml of plasma which can save two lives, as 200 ml is sufficient to treat one patient.”
“The patient’s blood who was recovered from the deadly covid 19 is rich in antibodies and can help the positive critical patients,” the doctor further said.
“It took only 2 to 3 hours in donating the plasma and is not very complex, i appeal the recovered patients to come forward and save lives by donating your plasma,” said a doctor
Several Medical Association world wide including Red cross in coordination with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are seeking people who are fully recovered from the deadly coronavirus to donate their plasma to the critical patients as their plasma contain antibodies having specific ability to fight the novel virus and can help the critical patient to recover.
Under the plasma therapy technique , only the plasma is taken from the recovered patients and not the blood, the donor can donate plasma after an interval of 10-12 days, unlike blood donations, blood is put back in the body after the plasma is separated and used.
Pertinently, Plasma therapy trials are going on nationwide, Chief Minister Delhi Arvind Kejriwal expressed merriment regarding plasma therapy as it showed positive results on Covid 19 patients in the capital where four COVID-19 patients underwent plasma therapy treatment and showed initial positive results.
Meanwhile Doctor Association Kashmir in a statement on Saturday appealed to recovered Coronavirus patients to donate plasma that can be used to treat serious cases of COVID-19.
It further added that Plasma therapy involves the transfusion of plasma from a recovered patient to a critical patient, the therapy is based on the premise that blood of a patient who has recovered from COVID-19 contains antibodies with the specific ability to fight the novel virus and help the critical patient to recover.
