SRINAGAR: Nocturnal protests erupted in Kashmir University soon after news about the killing of three youth amid counter claims by army and the locals on Sunday.

While army claimed that the three civilians were Over Ground Workers and were killed in retaliation to an attack that also left a local militant dead, the locals said that the trio was civilians and army version was a concocted story.

Reports said that students came out of the hostel and started protest against the killing. Shouting slogans, they demanded stern action against those responsible for the killing of the civilians. The university Public relation Officer could not be contacted.

Meanwhile, a number of students called GNS office, and urged the university authorities to cancel the examinations scheduled for tomorrow in wake of the strike called by the joint resistance leaders against the killing. “Trains services have also been suspended in south Kashmir and there is possibility of disturbances on account of law and order,” students of varsity’s school of law told GNS. “We have to come from Shopian as our paper is scheduled at 2 p.m. and if there was shutdown, restrictions or protests, it won’t be possible for us to appear,” they said.
