City Centre Lal Chowk will be out of bounds for people tomorrow

Srinagar, Oct 22, CNS: In wake of the sit-in call forwarded by Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik on October 23, authorities have decided to make historic Lal Chowk out of bounds for public.

Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic, city Srinagar in an advisory has requested commuters to use alternate routes to reach their destinations.

“In view of security restrictions in Srinagar on October 23, traffic will not be allowed to ply on Regal Chowk, Amira Kadal Bridge road stretch. Commuters are requested to use the alternate routes to reach their destinations. Any inconvenience caused is highly regretted,” reads the advisory.

Pertinently, on Sunday, seven civilians were killed in Laroo village in a blast caused by explosives left at the site of an encounter in which government forces killed three local militants.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in his tweet had said: “To strongly condemn &protest the mayhem unleashed in Kulgam by the ruthless Indian state in which so far 5 civilians & 3 armed youth killed besides injuries to tens of scores of injured,JRL calls for complete #Shutdown tomorrow,JRL will hold a #ProtestSitin on Tuesday at LaLchowk.” (CNS)
