Srinagar: National Conference on Tuesday rued that no steps are being taken by the central government to assuage the situation in J&K and asserted the uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir has completed six months with no end to the miseries of people in sight.
A provincial meet of party functionaries, parent body members, women’s wing functionaries, YNC members, and scores of other party office bearers was held here at party head quarters Nawa e Subha, Srinagar. The meet was presided over by party’s provincial secretary Advocate Showkat Ahmad Mir. The party’s district president Srinagar Pir Afaq Ahmad, provincial spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, Women wing provincial president Er. Sabiya Qadri, Shabir Kullay, G H Rahi, Syed Tauqeer, Younis Mubarak Gull also addressed the meet, which saw a large participation of workers, functionaries and office bearers from across Kashmir division.
The speakers in their address expressed concern over the uncertainty, chaos and confusion that have beset J&K following the measures which were taken on 5th of August. The speakers also concurred with the pain and suffering of the people of J&K in particular the valley of Kashmir who are living in the think of economic catastrophe, unemployment, fear. The speakers said the new normal in J&k has cost it its jobs, tourism, industry, handicraft and horticulture. They maintained that the people are seeing no light at the end of tunnel and that the government is busy in crowding-out the J&K’s legitimate voices, former chief ministers, and former law makers, sitting parliamentarians by demeaning their contribution towards democracy and by keeping them under detention. “The present ruling dispensation has uprooted the frail saplings of democracy in J&K which were watered by our party braving all odds and torments. It is a risky bet to think of changing the political landscape of J&K by crowding out its genuine grass roots level leadership. The continued incarceration of party leaders Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and others defies logic, morality and legality,” the leaders said.
While extolling the role of party leadership in particular Sher e Kashmir party leaders said the party will continue to follow the golden rules laid down by sheikh Sahib, “our ideology is shorn of regional, religious prejudices. We have not allowed bigotry sever us from our age old proclivity for democratic ideals and secular values. We have never been averse to the democratic values and electoral politics. We draw our sustenance from the support of people. The trust people had reposed in us hasn’t diminished a bit. We will continue to strive for the betterment of people,” party leaders said.
Party leaders maintained that until and unless party leadership Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, General Secretary, provincial president including other party leaders are released there can be no headway. “The future policies, road map shall be decided only after party leadership is released. We have a party hierarchy in place that takes the final call; however that can happen after working committee meets and subsequent core committee meet. Nothing of that sort can happen unless party leadership is released fore with,” speakers asserted.
