Handwara : A doctor at a private nursing home in Northern Handwara town cut the head of a baby boy during birth. The baby was shifted to neonate hospital Srinagar where he received four stitches in his head.
Ironically, the operation was not performed by any Genealogist but a general surgeon. This general surgeon identified as Dr Abdul Khaliq who does private practice at ‘Waseem Memorial Nursing Home’ Handwara is posted at District Hospital Kupwara.
The news of the bizarre incident came to light today when the family members of the woman staged a protest outside Nursing Home. Family members told news agency KNT that 28 year old Jameela Begum wife of Bilal Ahmed Lone, a resident of Bahadarpora Rajwar was brought to District Hospital Handwara where doctors suggested her to visit private nursing home as her condition was critical.
“Doctors at District Hospital Handwara asked us to visit any private nursing home because they didn’t want to attend her in wake of Covid threat. On the lame excuse of Covid threat, they didn’t admit her in the hospital,” Bilal Ahmed told KNT.
“I was in a way forced to take my pregnant wife to ‘Waseem Memorial Nursing Home’ Handwara. The duty doctor Dr Abdul Khaliq performed C-section on Jameela and while doing so, he cut the head of the baby. The doctor, who panicked, assured us that everything is alight and asked us to take the baby urgently to GB Panth Hospital Srinagar.”
The baby was taken to Children Hospital Srinagar where he received 4 stitches in his head. “It is very painful to see the body of a new born getting stitched.
An official from the Nursing Home feigned ignorance about the incident. He said he will ascertain the facts.
Baby’s kin demand action against doctor and hospital administration.
The doctor in question didn’t respond to phone calls. (KNT)
