Srinagar: National Conference on Wednesday announced to boycott the upcoming Panchayat and Municipal elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, NC President Farooq Abdullah said the party won’t contest the panchayat and municipal polls slated later this year as the situation was not conducive for the polls.
He said the decision was taken in the party’s core group meeting today.
“The National Conference will not participate in the Panchayat and ULB elections unless and until the GOI clears its position with regard to Art 35-A. And takes effective steps to safeguard it inside and outside the Courts,” said NC leader and MLA Budgam Agha Ruhullah on Twitter.

Omar Abdullah’s tweet:
It is now for the central government to clarify where it stands with regard to Art 35-A. It’s not enough to use Panchayat & Municipal elections simply to delay proceedings in court. https://t.co/R0rwfS00Cs

We will protect Article 35 A to the last drop of our blood. The 'Instrument of Accession' that took place between J&K and the Republic of India was a conditional one. If conditions are removed, what exactly is left? Nothing, I say. Introspect! #ElectionBoycott
