Naibasti Mohalla stages protest against no availability of electricity in Uri

SRINAGAR : Residents of Naibasti Mohalla area of Bandi Uri town stages a protest at Srinagar Muzaffarabad road on Tuesday against the no availability of electricity, hampering the vehicular movement for hours.

Scores of the protestors assembled at Srinagar- Muzaffarabad main road demanding for replacement of the damaged transformer in Naibasti Bandi area of Uri town. The protesters, mostly women, staged a dharna on the main road and disrupted traffic movement for hours.

“The transformer was damaged before two weeks plunging our area in darkness. We approached all concerned authorities but they did not give ear to our requests”, said a protestor Abdul Hamid Sheikh.

Shouting slogans against PDD department, they demanded replacement of the damaged transformer immediately. Besides, they said that the district administration has shown least concern to address their grievances.

The protestors said that they will not lift the dharna till the authorities replace the transformer as they have been deprived of power supply for last two weeks. “The PDD will come with the bills later this month but how can we pay the bills when the power supply was not provided?, they asked. However, officials reached the spot and assured an immediate action. (PTK)
