Srinagar: Voicing against Union of India and advising people to read Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani’s book ‘Wullar Kinarey’ are among the reasons behind slapping Public Safety Act (PSA) on the former minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Spokesman, Naeem Akhtar, reveals a dossier.
A PSA dossier against Naeem, accessed by wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that after dissolving erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state coalition government in 2018, Naeem raised his voice against the sovereignty of nation and has called meeting with his party workers, activists and allied ministers provoked, instigated them to unite and come on roads against the decision taken by the central government for the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A.
“Naeem also provoked other party workers to disrupt peace and tranquility in order to achieve his goal,” the dossier read, adding that on January 09, 2019, Naeem termed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah’s west Bengal speech an open call for a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ and said that saffron party chief has challenged the very idea of India.
Pertinently, Naeem was booked under PSA on last Saturday. He became the sixth out of total seven leaders who have been booked under PSA so far since August 5, the day when all the leaders across Jammu and Kashmir were placed under detention in wake of the central government’s decision to abrogate Article 370 and bifurcate the erstwhile State into two Union Territories—J&K and Ladakh.
Moreover, the dossier further added that one reason for slapping a PSA on Akhtar is a statement made by him wherein he said BJP is setting up a dangerous game for electoral gains in the country and is playing a communal hatred card and last resort to win elections.
“Naeem in order to achieve nefarious designs has been since long giving such statements which are not only instigating general public to rise against Union of India but are also of such nature which instigate disgruntled elements to indulge in violence and illegal activities like stone pelting so as to keep the peace distant,” the dossier reads.
It added that Akhtar’s statements are indicative of the fact that he is bent upon not allowing public order to return and disturb peace process. “His leaning towards radical elements can be gathered from his statement on 27 September 2016 in which he as an education minister advised people to read Geelani’s book Wullar Kinarey,” the dossier added.
The dossier further added that reports collected from discreet sources reveal that Akhtar is reported to have stressed general youth to continue their unlawful activities and arousing anti-India sentiments in them.
“Akhtar slammed government of India over summoning Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to New Delhi by NIA alleging that tactics aimed at hurting the sentiments of Lakhs of Muslims in Kashmir,” it said, adding that Naeem has been voicing adverse against the government. (KNO)
