Shopian: Mughal Road is completely in dilapidated condition that has been giving tough time to commuters and passengers. Besides bad roads, the Forces personnel in the garb of security are wasting too much time of passengers in frisking and questioning.

Commuters alleged that not only the road is in dilapidated state but the frisking and checking of every vehicle by army is making things worse for them. “The checking from army leads to traffic mess and same is true with Hirpora-Pir ki Gali long stretch that is in bad condition and accumulates traffic,” they told news agency CNS.

In last review meeting even authorities admitted that the 21-km Hirpora-Pir ki Gali stretch was in a bad shape. Also, Army takes two to three minutes to scan a vehicle, leading to “accumulation of traffic”.

“With the result, some vehicles get stranded at Pir Ki Gali for five to six hours and the administration has to clear the stranded vehicles the entire night.”

An official said that Shopian administration has proposed random checking of vehicles by the army besides upgrading of the damaged road stretch and shelter sheds for stranded passengers. He said that matter has been taken up with the army and also with the improvement in weather, road will be macadamized.
