Srinagar: In a significant move to boost the morale and welfare of Special Police Officers (SPOs) in the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Union Territory’s government has announced a substantial hike in their monthly honorarium.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by the J&K Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, earlier today.

Under the revised structure, the honorarium for SPOs has been categorized into four slabs, depending on the length of their service.

The new monthly honorarium rates are as follows:

Freshly recruited SPOs: ₹12,000 per month

SPOs with five years of service: ₹18,000 per month

SPOs with ten years of service: ₹24,000 per month

SPOs with fifteen years of service or more: ₹30,000 per month

This decision is aimed at recognizing the significant contributions of SPOs, who play a vital role in maintaining law and order and assisting the regular police force in Jammu and Kashmir.Speaking on the occasion, CM Omar Abdullah said, “SPOs have been instrumental in strengthening the security apparatus in J&K, often performing their duties in challenging circumstances. This revised honorarium is a step towards ensuring they receive fair recognition for their service and dedication.”The decision has been welcomed by SPOs and their families, with many expressing gratitude to the government for addressing their long-pending demands. “This revision not only provides financial relief but also motivates us to continue serving with greater commitment,” said an SPO with over ten years of service. The new honorarium structure will be implemented with immediate effect, and the increased pay is expected to benefit thousands of SPOs across the Union Territory.
