SRINAGAR : Employees engaged under Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) today staged a protest demonstration in Rajouri demanding job policy for them.
The employees assembled in children’s park to stage a peaceful protest amid slogans against the government.
They said that for past several years, many people are working under MGNREGA but government is yet to frame any job policy for them.
“We staged a protest demanding job policy after which concerned minister assured us redressal of our grievance in one month but now one and a half months have passed and our demand is yet to be addressed,” they said.
The protestors said that they have been working under the Act for the past one decade with dedication, but the government, despite assurances, wasn’t fulfilling the “genuine” demands of more than five thousand employees.
“I am work with complete dedication but in return, I get peanuts in salary. The minimum wages provided to us too are disbursed after months,” said Aijaz Ahmad, a protesting employee.
“There is no job security, the government must regularize us and release our salaries on time,” he added.
The protestors said that the minister for rural development, Abdul Haq Khan, many a time, assured them of fulfilling the demands but nothing has been done in this regard as yet. The protestors threatened of indefinite strike if the govt did not assure of fulfilling demands.
They said that government is playing with their future.
