Misconduct mars SKIMS work culture

 SRINAGAR: Senior doctors from valley’s premier tertiary care hospital, Shar-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura Srinagar have alleged rise of indiscipline in the institution, which according to them is hampering discharge of their professional duties.

Sources in the institution said that the performance of the hospital has been affected by lobbyism and rivalry existing between various faculty members.

The sources narrated a recent episode in which two junior doctors had a brawl with a senior doctor. “The senior doctor was harassed and assaulted after which he was forced to file a complaint in police station Soura. Police has registered a first information report in this incident under number 112/16 RPC; 451, 506. Sources said.

Adding that “Such episodes of misconduct have brought disgrace to the profession of doctors and to the valley’s premier hospital. Incidents like this have become a routine matter which has annoyed many senior doctors working in the institution”.

They further added that a senior doctor working as head of department for a particular section has tendered his resignation as protest against the rise of misconduct from juniors and the rise of indiscipline in the institution.

Sources said that following the resignation of the HOD, the Director SKIMS Soura Constituted an enquiry to look into the matter but no action was taken till now.

It was learnt from reliable sources that the two accused doctors have resorted to acts of hooliganism and misbehavior in past as well and around 4 inquiries were sought against them but to no avail. They said that such incidents affect their psyche and deteriorate the work of the institution.

They doctors appealed to Chief Minister of the state and chairman governing body SKIMS, to intervene into the matter.
