Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s interim relief on the Waqf Amendment Act, calling it a ray of hope for Muslims seeking justice against what he termed a discriminatory law.
In a post on X, Mirwaiz said the apex court’s tough questions to the government regarding the Waqf Amendment Act and its interim direction — restraining the addition of new members to Waqf boards and stopping the denotification of ‘Waqf-by-user’ properties — was a positive step.
“The Supreme Court asking some tough questions of the Government on the Waqf Amendment Act, and its interim stand… is welcome,” Mirwaiz wrote, adding that the development gives hope to Muslims who see the court as their last resort for relief and justice.
He expressed hope that the apex court would ultimately revoke the “biased and excessive” Act. (KNS)
