MeT issues advisory for Srinagar-Jammu, Zojila highways

SRINAGAR: The meteorological department (MeT)  issued an advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, warning of possibility of landslides and snow avalanche in vulnerable areas like Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Leh (Zojila) highways on April 5 and 6.

MeT in a statement issued said that an active Western Disturbance is likely to affect J&K from April 4 to 6. “Light rain at scattered to fairly widespread places with snowfall on higher reaches is likely to commence from 4th. The intensity and spatial distribution of precipitation will increase from 4th evening with widespread rainfall/snowfall (on higher reaches) on 5th and 6th April across the state of J&K,” it said.

“Some places of Jammu &Kashmir is likely to receive hailstorm during 5th and 6th:, it adds. MeT asked the farmers to postpone their Farm management practices like spraying of orchards, application of fertilizers etc. “Passengers are advised to contact respective Traffic Control Rooms prior to their journey,” the advisory added.
