Calls Patwari Transfer Row a ‘Joke with Mandate

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti Friday launched a sharp attack on the present government, accusing it of failing to address the real issues faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

She said that instead of focusing on unemployment, arrests, and the everyday struggles of youth, the government was holding major meetings on minor matters like the transfer of Patwaris.

“This is a joke with the mandate people have given them,” Mehbooba said while addressing reporters. “Did the people vote for discussions on who will transfer a Patwari or VLW, or did they vote for a government that would speak on youth rotting in jails, unemployment, and daily raids?”

She criticized the government for remaining silent on key issues, including the termination of employees and arrests of young people. “It has been six months since the government was formed, but they have not spoken about our jailed youth or sacked employees,” she said.

Mehbooba accused the government of surrendering before Delhi. “No one wants confrontation with the Centre, but this government surrendered without even trying. They are afraid to speak on the issues that matter to the people,” she said.

She also questioned the silence of Omar Abdullah over the removal of employees from his own department, stating that the lack of a stand on core issues reflects poorly on leadership.

“Instead of raising their voice against injustice, the government is busy in petty matters. Even when the train was flagged off, no one asked the Centre what it meant for local industries and employment,” she added.

Mehbooba concluded by saying the government’s priorities are misplaced, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve better. (KNS)
