Srinagar: PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday questioned Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s reluctance to challenge the Home Minister on security-related concerns despite his party’s political strength.
She emphasized that with 50 MLAs and MPs, Abdullah should be using his position to strongly raise issues affecting the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“We are political parties, not militants. It is our duty to stand with the people against injustice,” Mehbooba said, asserting that political leaders must not shy away from holding the government accountable.
Expressing anguish over recent civilian deaths, she demanded strict punishment for those responsible for the killings of Waseem Mir of Bomai Sopore and Makhaan Din of Billawar Kathua.
Calling for swift action, she said such incidents deepen public distrust and must not be brushed aside.
Mehbooba also expressed surprise over the suspension of two Special Police Officers (SPOs) allegedly for refusing to spy on Iltija Mufti, her daughter.
She termed the action unjustified and demanded an immediate revocation of their suspension orders. [KNT]
