‘Literature needs honesty, originality’
Anantnag: A young poetess from South Kashmir’s Anantnag district has been emphasizing the authenticity and depth required in creating meaningful works in literature.Shoqia Jan (26), wife of Arif Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Shamshipora in Anantnag, is all set to publish two more of her books.Speaking to Shoqia @Nadim Shoqia said that she had an interest in poetry since her childhood and started writing poems when she was in Class 12th.“My father is also a poet and that was the main reason that I was inclined towards poetry since childhood,” she said.“Presently, I have written three books and one among them “Thane Fael Dil Jiger Sosan” has been published already while two others, Malaal Akhir Malal Rozem and another is a collection of short stories that will be published soon,” she added.“My favourite poet is Rasool Mir and in my poems I try to write different aspects of our society,” she said, adding that, “Everybody knows that humans have become materialistic and there is hardly anyone who is having the inner peace and I try to bring the human back to its original position through my poetry.”She said that “in today’s world, we have reached the stage where humanity hardly exists and my aim is to bring the human back to its originality where he used to care about everyone.”Shoqia in her message to budding writers said that one must write literature that is truly a literature” while emphasizing the authenticity and depth required in creating meaningful works.“True literature transcends mere storytelling or entertainment; it delves into the human condition, explores universal truths, and leaves a lasting impact on its audience but nowadays 90 percent of the literature isn’t worth it to be called literature. True literature requires honesty, originality, and a deep understanding of language and emotions. Writing literature that is “truly literature” means crafting work that resonates with readers, challenges perspectives, and contributes to the cultural and intellectual fabric of society,” she said.Pertinently, Shoqia has worked in Doordarshan as an anchor and Radio Jockey and has remained associated with many literature forums and has been awarded at mega stages several times—(KNO)
