Srinagar:  The incarcerated chairman of Muslim League Jammu and Kashmir Masarat Aalam Bhat was on Monday brought from Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu to Srinagar for the hearing of a case lodged against him in police station Kothi Bagh Srinagar with FIR number 52/2010.

Masarat Aalam was produced on Monday before Chief Judicial Magistrate where after hearing the arguments; the judge fixed the next hearing of the said case on June 23, a spokesperson of the League Sajad Ayoubi said in a statement issued to GNS.

After the hearing, Masarat was taken back to Kot Bhalwal Jail Jammu, Ayoubi said adding that prolonging the “illegal” detention of Masarat showed the frustration of authorities.

“Masarat’s PSA has been quashed by judiciary and even 36th PSA is about to complete. Despite this, he is being implicated in fictitious cases and continues to languish in jails. This is the worst form of human rights violation,” he said.

The spokesperson said government instead of honouring the court orders is ignoring all norms and rules.

“Alam is being subjected to political vendetta,” he said.

Demanding the release of prisoners including Masarat Aalam before Eid-ul-Fitr, Ayoubi said, “If India is really sincere and firm on dialogue process, then it should release Masarat Aalam.”

The spokesperson appealed the rights defender bodies including the Red Cross and Human Rights Watch to take note of the “worst political revenge against Maasrat Aalam and his illegal detention by the government”. (GNS)
