Uri : Inhabitants of border town Uri are suffering as a single paediatrician is available to handle a huge rush of children at Sub-District Hospital (SDH) here.
A delegation of locals told that the doctor attends the patients only for three days in a week due to which the local population is facing various hardships. They said that earlier there were two pediatricians in the hospital and now only one.
“The doctors used to be available in the hospital for the entire week and took care of the patients very well. But last month one of the pediatricians was transferred from Uri hospital to Sopore hospital which has destabilised the things here,” they said.
The delegation further said, “After the transfer of the doctor, there is only one pediatrician doctor at the hospital and is available for only three days in a week.”
They said that although a medical officer was appointed in Uri hospital in place of the transferred doctor, he has not joined the office yet.
“Since the pediatrician is available in the hospital only for the first three days of the week, children with different ailments have to be shifted to Baramulla or Srinagar hospitals,” they said.
Parents in Uri have demanded the transfer or attachment of the doctor back to SDH Uri from Sopore for at least two days in a week so that they can get some relief.
When contacted, Chief Medical Officer Baramulla (CMO) Dr Bashir Ahmad Malik told GNS that he will look into the matter and find a way to sort out the problem.
