Local artisans, craftsmen likely to demonstrate vocational education with 6th to 8th students

Srinagar : In order to expand vocational education in classes 6th to 8th, authorities have ordered schools to identify and invite local artisans or craftsmen and skilled people for demonstrations and interactions with students.

Vocational Education is presently being introduced from classes 9th to 12th and training is being imparted in 14 different trades in various Government High and Higher Secondary Schools.

State coordinator of vocational education at Samagra Shiksha has said, “As envisioned under New Education Policy 2020, emphasis has been laid on expanding the scope of vocationalization by introducing it in classes 6th to 8th.”

In the Annual Work Plan and Budget (AWP&B) of 2022-23, Ministry of Education, Government of India has approved 862 schools having classes 6th to 8th under the activity.

“Accordingly, I am directed to request all the Chief Education Officers to make necessary arrangements for implementation of the activity in the approved schools on immediate basis,” the officer said.

In the guidelines issued by the authorities, it said, “Schools shall identify and invite the local artisans, craftsmen and skilled people for demonstrations and interactions with students.”

The guidelines further read that a minimum of three demonstrations or interactions shall be conducted in each of these approved schools during one academic year.
