Jammu: In a significant political shift, Liyakat Ali, the chief spokesperson for Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) in Jammu and Kashmir, has resigned from his party and officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The move was formalized today at the BJP headquarters in Jammu, signaling a notable realignment in the Union Territory’s political landscape.
Hailing from Budgam in Kashmir, Ali’s decision to switch allegiance was marked by a formal induction ceremony attended by senior BJP leaders, including Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Sat Sharma and General Secretary (Organization) Ashok Koul. The event underscores the BJP’s ongoing efforts to expand its influence in the region, particularly in the Kashmir Valley, where it has historically faced challenges in gaining a foothold.
