Srinagar: Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Mehmood Shah on Thursday paid tribute to the PhD scholar-turned “freedom fighter”, Mannan Wani and his companion for “sacrificing their lives for the cause”.

A spokesperson of LeT Dr Abdullah Ghaznavi in a statement issued to GNS quoted Shah as saying, “Wani’s sacrifice can never be forgotten. He was a PhD scholar. His sacrifice proves that the highly educated youth of Jammu Kashmir have taken big decisions to get India out of the state.”

“When young people of any nation choose the path of sacrifices, the occupational powers have to accept defeat. Today, the freedom movement is at its peak. Our mothers, sisters, daughters, children, old and young, students, doctors, lawyers, scholars and businessmen, all are on one page and are committed to get freedom,” he said.

Mehmood Shah also praised the stone-pelters, saying they are “our Ababeel”.

“Abraha’s troops were destroyed when Ababeel threw pebbles on them. We are proud of our brave sons and daughters who are fighting the Indian army with stones. We thank the people who faced the danger and helped the holed up mujahideen,” he said.

“The martyrdom of Mannan Wani will give a big lift to the freedom struggle, and doors of freedom will be opened. He (Wani) used his gun as well as his pen for the cause,” LeT chief said, adding, “Our martyrs are our heroes and their blood will never go wasted.” (GNS)
