LAHDC Polls: 2100 voters apply for postal ballot

Voting a week ahead for elderly, specially-abled people

Leh : The election authority in newly created union territory of Ladakh Saturday said that nearly 2100 persons with disability and aged above 65 years will be facilitated to vote through postal ballot on 13th and 14 October.

The administration in cold desert Ladakh has fixed 22 October as poll date for the 6th general autonomous hill development council (LAHDC) election while the 2100 persons have applied for the postal ballot services.

Addressing a press conference, deputy commissioner leh, Sachin Kumar vaishya, who is also the election authority for the 6th general LAHDC election according to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that nearly 2100 voters who have applied for the postal ballot service will cast their votes on 13th and 14th October and in case they fail to cast none among them will be allowed to poll vote on 22nd October.

He said that 6th LAHDC election is underway and all the preparations have already been commenced and postal ballots have already been dispatched yesterday that include voters serving in paramilitary, armed forces.

We have designated that on 13th and 14th October all the voters above 65 years and persons with disability who have applied for postal ballot will poll their votes from early 08 in the morning to 04 in the evening, he said.

He said that concerned BLOs will visit the home and facilitate the voting there under a proper security that shall be deployed everywhere also all the formalities and modalities have been prepared.

“Nearly 2100 people fall under the category who have applied for the home voting (Postal ballet) across the Leh district’, he said. “The recording of votes will commence from 08:00 am in the morning up to 04:00 in the evening on 13 and 14th October.”

He said all those who can’t vote on 13th October will be intimated so that voting is accordingly done on 14th October.

The election authority said that all the concerned BLOs will give away the ballet to all such persons at home and the voting must be done under proper secrecy and shall seal the vote in a form under due procedure and submit the same to BLO and he (BLO) has to get signature from the voter.

To maintain the secrecy police will remain deployed and gathering won’t be allowed only because three staff members will visit, he said.

Urging the voters to poll their vote, the election authority said that all the names have been enlisted for electoral roll and all such voters who have applied for the postal ballet won’t be allowed to cast their vote on 22nd October in case they fail to do it on the allotted date.

Meanwhile, additional superintendent of police, leh Tashi Phuntsok Gobi, told reporters as per KNO on sidelines of a police public meet that the political parties have been advised not to keep the attendance of more than three people during door to door campaigning.

He said people during the event have been advised to adhere to the norms and model code of conduct and participants included public representatives and other respectable—(KNO)
