Srinagar : Amid growing resentment in Jammu & Kashmir over extending jurisdiction of the Central Administrative Tribunal’s Chandigarh bench on service matters of government employees in the Union Territory, anger is also brewing in Ladakh UT which will also come under same bench of the tribunal.

Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Chief Executive Councilor , Hill Council Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan said he has written to LG R K Mathur to express his resentment over the decision. “People of Ladakh should get the tribunal here so that they don’t face hardships,” he said, adding that he is hopeful that the government will address the concerns of the people of the Union Territory.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Department of Personnel and Trainings (DOPT) notified that service matters of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh UTs would be dealt by the CAT’s Chandigarh bench whose mandate was restricted to hearing matters of central government employees in the erstwhile state of J&K. The CAT will deal with matters like services, employment, pension etc. Before re-organization of J&K, the service matters of employees of the J&K Government were being adjudicated by Kashmir and Jammu wings of High Court.

Former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA)  Kargil, Asgar Ali Karbalie also  echoed similar views, saying that the people of Ladakh should also get separate bench of Tribunal. “The government should come clear on certain things. Recently, domicile law was unveiled for Jammu and Kashmir but there is no  such law for this region. We will soon come up with details of discrimination meted out to the region,” he said.

Before October 31, 2019, Ladakh region spread over two districts was part of Jammu and Kashmir –(KNO)
