rinagar : The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh R K Mathur has appealed the Chancellor of Sarmpurnanand Sanskrit University (SSU) Varanasi, Anandiben Patel to issued appropriate directions for grant of re-affiliation to pre-university courses of Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS) Leh.
In a letter issued by the LG of Ladakh, Mathur has appealed Patel to intervene in resolving certain difficulties concerning the affiliation of the pre-university courses being run by the CIBS Leh.
The LG has said that the CIBS Leh had been affiliated with the SSU Varanasi for a considerably long period.
“The problem arose in 2016 when after getting deemed University status by UGC, the CIBS got itself disaffiliated from the SSU for its pre-university courses along with the university-level courses,” the letter reads.
Mathur said, “Perhaps, the decision of the disaffiliation of the pre-university courses was taken by the CIBS due to as notion that the deemed university status granted by UGC for its university courses would automatically provide affiliation for its pre-university courses.”
He also said that the institute continued running the pre-university courses without any affiliation or recognition from a competent body since 2016. “This has jeopardized the future of the students studying in the CIBS run schools that passed out after 2016,” it reads.
Mathur said that the issue was presently causing considerable unrest among the students.
“Immediately after the formation of UT of Ladakh I had approached the Union Minister of Culture for his intervention to resolve the matter,” he said.
Mathur said that the minister reviewed the matter in a meeting held in Delhi on March-10-2021 and directed the CIBS authorities to formulate a fresh proposal to get the pre-university courses affiliated to some Centre or State Level Board to obviate any further complications and advised in the meantime to approach the SSU Varanasi who were the original affiliating agency in respect of CIBS to consider the matter the in interest of students and provide affiliation retrospectively since 2016.
“The Vice-Chancellor of CIBS has accordingly approached Vice-Chancellor of SSU Varanasi for considering the re-affiliation of CIBS retrospectively since its disaffiliation,” reads the letter of LG of Ladakh.
He requested the Chancellor of Sarmpurnanand Sanskrit University of Varanasi, Anandiben Patel to intervene into the matter to resolve the issue by issue by issuing the appropriate directions for grant of re-affiliation to pre-university courses of CIBS with effect from 2016 as a continuation of its earlier affiliation.
