Attendants carry patients on back to top floor

Shopian : The newly constructed District hospital Shopian is giving tough time to patients and physically challenged people in absence of a ramp.

Many patients have to be carried on shoulders to reach top floors in absence of the ramp.

An attendant Sahil Ahmad told  that he had to carry his ailing mother on his back to reach the first floor.

The problem aggravates especially for patients suffering from kidney disease or going for surgery. Both the facilities are on the top floors of the hospital.

Another attendant Shabir Ahmad complained that the elevator remains out of order frequently.

The building was constructed recently and the lack of ramp has raised a question mark on the executing agency. Many demanded that the authorities should investigate the matter and fix the responsibility.

The hospital building, according to an official, was constructed by Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Company (JKPCC) at a cost of Rs 23 crore—(KNO)
