SRINAGAR: An army soldier who was injured critically after he shoots himself with his service rifle in Cherkoote area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday, succumbed late this evening.
“Rifleman, Ranjeet Singh of 28 RR shoots himself at an army camp in Cherkote while he was on duty,” official sources told GNS, adding that the soldier suffered serious injuries in the incident.
Following the gunshot, the colleagues rushed towards the soldier and found him in a pool of blood, they said, adding that the soldier was immediately taken to military hospital Drugmulla.
Singh, who has suffered a serious bullet wound in his abdomen, succumbed late this evening, they said.
A police officer also confirmed the incident and said that investigations into the incident have been launched. (GNS)
