KU North campus organises program on ‘Mental Health’

BARAMULLA: Department of Management Studies of University of Kashmir, North Campus organised an awareness cum interactive program on ‘Mental health awareness and Art ’. The program was supervised by a faculty member.

According to a statement issued, Saloome Showkat, faculty of management studies, Kashmir University, North campus organised an event to spread the awareness about mental health awareness which is the current problem mostly suffered by the younger generation.

A mental illness is a condition that affects a person’s thinking, feeling or mood. “Such conditions may affect someone’s ability to relate to others and function each day. Each person will have different experiences, even people with the same diagnosis 1 out 5 adults are suffering from this condition every year. Half of the mental health conditions begin by age 14, and 75% of mental health conditions develop by age 24. The normal personality and behaviour changes of adolescence may mimic or mask symptoms of a mental health condition. Early engagement and support are crucial to improving outcomes and increasing the promise of recovery”, students were told on the occasion.

During the interaction, students were briefed about the various skills and activities to improve their mental health. A number of students, especially students of 4th semester of the department participated in the program.

On the occasion, a renowned poet, singer and motivator Mohammad Muneem was the chief guest. Muneem interacted with the students besides he shared his personal experiences with them to encourage students towards a positive approach in life.

Mohammad Muneem Nazir, is a poet singer-songwriter and co-founder of the live act, Alif fusion of Urdu & Kashmiri poetry with contemporary music.

Mohammad Muneem teaches Urdu Poetry at Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce. And conducts various poetry / storytelling workshops

Mohammad Muneem is also a story teller and part theatre group rangshila. An adept film-maker and scriptwriter, he conceptualizes and directs Alif’s videos. Alif is currently working on a music for an upcoming film starring “Sanjay Dutt” called “Torbaaz” and “Dishyam production kash Mir singh” for which Muneem has also been commissioned to write dialogues. Alifs has shall also be featured in “Laila Majnu” of Imtiyaz Ali.

Syed Murad Saddam Geelani, a poet also interacted with students on the current scenario of Mental health awareness and Art.

Both the guests interacted with the students and shared their thoughts and opinion about the importance of awareness of mental health. They explained how art can play a pivotal role to overcome the ill effects of mental illness.
