Srinagar: Journalist bodies condemned the attack on journalists while performing their professional by security forces in Shopian.
Kashmir Press Club has condemned the attack on Photojournalists in Shopian today. It has been reported that the journalists were delivering their professional duties during the encounter and the protests in the area when the security forces fired pellets at them. Few photo journalists have received injuries on their faces during this incident.
KPC in a statement issued here expressed disappointment over such incidents of targeting of journalists. “It is not the first time such an incident has happened. Most unfortunate those journalists are made a targeted when they are only performing their duties. It is appalling that pellets were fired at them”, said in a statement to VMS.
Kashmir Press Club has asked the authorities to investigate the incident. The club expresses sympathy with the injured members of the fraternity and hopes for their speedy recovery.
Kashmir Video Journalist Association (KVJA) has condemned the attack on journalists in Shopian today.
This has become a routine that journalists while performing their professional duties are either thrashed or at time showered with pellets.
KVJA appeals to Governor and DGP to initiate strict action against those who are involved in today’s incident and make sure that it doesn’t happen in future.
Kashmir National Television Journalist Association (KNTJA) has condemned the attack on Photojournalist in Shopian today.
Journalists were performing their duties and while covering the encounter and protests at Shopian site, they were showered with pellets injuring 4 members of the fraternity.
Kashmir National Television Journalist Association has asked the Governor Satya Pal Malik and Director General of Police Dilbag Singh to personally look into the matter and order an enquiry into the incident.
Broadcast and Multimedia Journalist Association (BMJA) Kashmir condemned the attack on photojournalists by the forces during the gunfight in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
In a statement to Valley Media Service, BMJA General Secretary and Chief Spokesperson, Irfan Quraishi said that the photo journalists were carrying out their professional duties and attack on them is attack on fourth estate. Quraishi said that it is very unfortunate that the forces showered media persons with pellets from a close range.
Quraishi added that the violence’ against Kashmiri photojournalists is ‘unacceptable.’ BMJA called upon the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the pellet firing at journalists. “We demand authorities to conduct a thorough investigation on this blatant attack on press freedom.
Quraishi urged Governor Satya Pal Malik and Director General of Police Dilbag Singh to look into the matter as why the journalists are attacked time and again while discharging their professional duties. He said that BMJA demand strict action against the erring forces personnel.(VMS)
