Bandipora : The residents of the refugee village of Kilshay in north Kashmir’s Gurez valley are facing immense challenges as they continue to live without access to basic facilities such as electricity, road networks, and a functioning healthcare system.
Speaking to the the locals said that the absence of essential infrastructure has forced the villagers to rely on their own resourcefulness, with residents going to extraordinary lengths, even carrying patients on their shoulders, to receive medical assistance.
“For years, the villagers have been grappling with a lack of electricity, leaving them in darkness,” they said, adding that despite their pleas for assistance, the area remains disconnected from the proper electricity, depriving them of basic amenities and hindering their development.
“Every day, we wake up hoping for change, longing for basic facilities like electricity and proper roads. It’s disheartening to witness our loved ones suffer due to the lack of infrastructure,” laments Rahim, a local resident.
“Without proper roads, transportation becomes an arduous task, forcing the villagers to shoulder the burden of carrying sick individuals to the nearest healthcare facility,” he said.
Carrying our sick loved ones on our shoulders is a stark reminder of the challenges we face. We need urgent intervention to alleviate our hardships,” pleads Fatima, another resident of the refugee village.
