District Administration orders time bound probe

Kupwara: A day after army soldiers shot dead a shopkeeper in Thregam area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police have registered an FIR related to ‘attempt to murder’.

   A police official however, said that they have clearly mentioned in the FIR that a Road Opening Party from 8 Bihar and 160 Territorial Army- two different army units opened fire on the stone-pelters resulting in the death of a civilian Khalid Gafar Malik of Burnpora Thregam.

   Pertinently, Khalid (20) a shopkeeper by profession was killed on Wednesday evening when army used live ammunition after they came under a stone-pelting attack.

   When asked whether an FIR has been lodged against Army, the police official told CNS that an FIR vide number 46/2018 under section 147, 148, 149, 336, 307, 323 RPC has been registered and investigation has been taken up.

    Meanwhile, Government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into this regard. Official sources said that

District Development Commissioner Kupwara, Khalid Jehangir has appointed Additional District Commissioner Handwara to probe the incident and submit his report within one month’s time. (CNS)
