Shopian : Chairman State Human Rights Commission, Justice Bilal Nazki has directed Deputy Commissioner and SSP Shopian to appear in person before the Commission with regards to killing of Shopian lady Beauty Jan in December last year.
“Despite Notices having been served through E-mail and Fax there is no response from Deputy Commissioner and SSP Shopian. In these circumstances both the officers are directed to appear in person before the commission on next date of hearing falling on 27 April next month,” the Commission is its letter to these officers read.
Earlier, the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) had issued notice to the civil and police administration, Shopian, seeking their report regarding the killing of a woman by government forces “intentionally” when her suckling child was in her lap at her house in South Kashmir on December 19, 2017.
The Commission had asked the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police to submit the report about the incident after a petition was filed by the Centre for Peace and Protection of Human Rights through its Chairman M M Shuja.
The petitioner has sought an independent probe “preferably through SHRC’s own investigation agency” to bring to justice those responsible for the killing of “unarmed woman” – Rubeena Jan alias Beauty Jan, wife of Manzoor Ahmad Mir of Batmuran Shopian.
However, there was no response from the police and civil administration Shopian as a result Commission directed both Deputy Commissioner and SSP to appear before it in person. (CNS)
