Kashmir’s Rubia Syeed female cricketer to represent team north India

SRINAGAR : A Kashmiri girl from Badasgam of Anantnag district in south Kashmir, Rubia Syeed is all set to represent north zone team in a cricket tournament organised by BCCI at Mumbai.   

After showing outstanding performance in U-23 Women’s League Tournament, she was selected to represent North zone Women’s’ team, which is comprises of players from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and J&K.

Rubia Sayeed is the only cricketer from J&K to represent North Zone.  In the qualifying Under-23 Women’s a league tournament at Amritsar Punjab, Rubia scored 160 runs with highest score of 82 runs in the inaugural match  played against host team Punjab.

While praising the cricketer, coach of the women cricketer, Sakeena Akhtar said that despite limited resources available to the Women Cricketers, she performed well.

Sakeena said the players couldn’t practice this year owing to unrest last year and said if the Cricketers would have practiced last year they would have performed even better and more players could have been selected as there is no dearth of women cricket talent in J&K.

She said if proper infrastructure is provided to the women Cricketers they will shine as they are not less than any other cricketer in the state.

She said there is a need to give more promotion to female participation in sports. Although the situation has improved considerably; there is still the need for secure proper facilities to develop women’s sports.
