Appeal LG Murmu, Chief Secretary to intervene
Srinagar : Amid the Coronavirus pandemic and further extension in lockdown by Prime Minister Narendra Modi till May 3, the students mostly girls studying in Kota Rajastan have demanded immediate evacuation, saying they are gripped in fear and panic.
Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) received distress calls from the students and their families on Wednesday afternoon. “We can’t stay here. We want to go home. We appeal to the central government and the JK government to intervene into the matter and help us to reach our homes in Kashmir,” the distressed students said.
In a whatspp message to KINS the students also said: “We are around 15 students aged between 14- 16 years stuck at Allen Coacing Institute, Kota in Rajastan state. Kindly use your good offices to convey our plight to the authorities so that we could be send back to Kashmir”.
“We and our parents who had come here to meet us have so far approached every available government help, but could not get any satisfactory reply about airlifting/ evacuation,” they said in a message.
One of the parents, who had gone Kota Rajastan to meet her daughter, said “From last 15 days we called one of the helpline numbers in Delhi many times, but every time we were told that they have registered our grievance, but they have no information from the Jammu and Kashmir government regarding our evacuation”.
She added that all the students and their families are voluntarily willing to keep themselves in quarantine after arrival for safety of entire community.
“It is true that the Allen coaching institute hasn’t asked us to leave, but we are away from home. Everyone is rushing home, so we also want to go home. We don’t know how long will this continue and we are about to suffer a mental breakdown,” the student said.
They appealed Lt. Governor Jammu and Kashmir and Chief Secretary to intervene and help them to evacuate from Rajastan to Kashmir.
It is to mention here that the government Wednesday appointed Principal Resident Commissioner, J&K in New Delhi, Dheeraj Gupta, Additional Resident Commissioner and Ex-Officio Secretary, Resident Commission, J&K Government in New Delhi, Niraj Kumar have been appointed as Nodal Officers for coordination of issues related to students, patients and other residents of J&K affected by lockdown and currently in different parts of the country.
The authorities here in Srinagar had said that the first batch of 52 students who were airlifted from Iran and were put under quarantine in an army facility at Jaisalmeer, Rajasthan, were expected to arrive in Srinagar on Wednesday.(KINS)
