Ganderbal: The residents of Kangan Sub Division in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district are facing an acute shortage of drinking water for the last two days.
The residents said, “We are not receiving a regular supply of drinking water. The authorities in the Jal Shakti department are not taking the holy month of Ramadan in view.”
The locals said they are facing immense hardships due to the acute shortage of water supply for the last three months, and for the last two days, there is no drinking water at all.
“For the last two days, we have been fetching water from streams, which are muddy and unsafe. This is how we have started Ramadan. We fear our children should not fall sick,” Showkat Ahmad, a local, said.
He said the department has been ignoring their pleas despite repeated requests.
The locals have asked the Jal Shakti department to take necessary action to end the water crisis. “If drinking water supply is not restored at the earliest, we will launch an agitation against the department,” they warned.
