SRINAGAR: Demanding completion of pending construction work of the bridge, the locals said they are facing immense hardships in absence of the bridge.

Demanding completion of pending construction work of the bridge, Local Resident said they were facing immense hardships in absence of the bridge.
They said that the under-construction bridge over Nallah Sindh will connect far flung areas of Tangchater area with Tehsil headquarters Kangan and is a vital connecting link with the Srinagar-Leh highway.
“The construction work of the bridge was started in 2010, but is still incomplete,” said a Local, a resident of Tangchater.
The bridge, which connects Srinagar with Leh, got damaged due to floods some 22 years ago. The old bridge was wooden and was about 40-years-old,” the residents said.
They said JKPCC had constructed a temporary steel bridge in 1993. “Since then the administration seems non-serious about it as our frequent representations and requests fall on deaf ears.”
The locals have appealed the authorities to address their long pending demand.
“The bridge is so narrow that even a pedestrian has to go back half way if a heavy vehicle is crossing it,” said a local. (PTK)
