Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah termed the inauguration of the Jammu Railway Division as a transformative step for the region, promising significant economic benefits from the direct rail link to Kashmir.
He highlighted job creation, enhanced trade, and a tourism boom as the primary advantages of this long-awaited milestone. “This marks a historic day for Jammu & Kashmir,” said Abdullah.
“For years, the people of Jammu have dreamed of having their own railway division. Today, that dream is a reality.”
The Chief Minister reassured the public that the rail link would strengthen Jammu’s economy, driving trade and tourism to new heights.
“This connection ensures that Jammu will gain economically from this development, paving the way for prosperity,” he stated. Addressing concerns about employment, Omar Abdullah emphasized the focus on local recruitment.
“With the new railway division headquartered in Jammu, we will prioritize jobs for local youth, fostering growth and providing meaningful opportunities for our residents,” he affirmed.
Omar Abdullah also noted the practical benefits of the rail link, which will alleviate long-standing issues like high airfares and winter flight disruptions. “This rail connectivity offers a reliable and affordable alternative for both residents and visitors, ensuring seamless transportation year-round,” he added.
