Door-to-door survey begins in areas near Air Force station, say officials

Jammu: Jammu Kashmir police have begun the verification of wedding and the event planners using drones for covering social and cultural functions and that the door to door survey—a first of its kind—is going on in the areas near Air Force Station (AFS) Jammu, officials said Thursday.
Reliable sources told, that that the wedding planners and event organisers have been asked to report to their nearest police stations and share the details of their equipment (drones or flying objects) along with their credentials with active phone numbers.
The move came after Rajouri district administration on Wednesday imposed a ban on the storage, sale, possession, use and transport of drones or any flying object.
“Deliberations are on between police and the administration over the registration of photographers, wedding planners and event managers,” a senior police officer told, adding that a door-to-door survey is going on in the areas near AFS Jammu.
“The survey is being conducted by the police,” an official privy to the development, told KNO.
He said there will be a proper advisory for those having drones for earning their livelihood like covering marriage functions of any cultural event.
After Sunday’s drone attack in which payloads were air-dropped at the high security zone of Jammu Air Force base, drones were spotted several times hovering over military establishments and Air Force Signal areas.
However, to keep a check on civilians especially those residing near Jammu Airport and the Air Force Base, Jammu Police have initiated verification of residents and tenants staying without registration.
“A house-to-house verification drive has been started in the residential colonies near the Jammu airport,” an official said. “Police teams visited Chatha, Belicharana, Basti Phalian Mandal and Nikki Tawi, Peer Baba belts to gather information about the residents. Policemen collected details of residents, including their contact numbers and full information about tenants.”
Sources in the defence told KNO that the IAF has also deployed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) fitted with a camera that hovers over its station and nearby residential areas for several hours in the afternoon.
