Nomination papers on his behalf submitted from two seats going to polls in phase-II
Ganderbal: Days after his nomination papers were rejected from Zainapora assembly constituency, the jailed religious cleric Sarjan Barkati has filed his nomination papers from two assembly segments including Ganderbal and Beerwah in Budgam, going to polls in the second phase of elections. Barkati, who along with his wife are presently in jail in a case related to terror financing, will be now contesting the assembly elections from two constituencies including Ganderbal and Beerwah.In Ganderbal, the former chief minister and National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah is vying for the seat while 24 candidates have so far filed their nomination papers.The process of filing nomination papers ended today.According to Sugra Barkati, daughter of Sarjan, was accompanied by several persons during the filing of nomination papers for her father.In Ganderbal, Adil Nazir Khan, who along with another person, Anand Singh, filed the nomination papers on behalf of Sarjan, said that, “I believe in the democracy of India and have full faith in the Constitution. We are here to file the nomination papers on behalf of Sarjan Barkati from Ganderbal seat.”Further, he added that Sarjan Barkati will contest from both Ganderbal and Beerwah constituencies.Khan also said that Barkati should be given a chance to participate in the democratic process—(KNO)
