All the possible steps have been taken by the BCCI to ensure the safety of all the players and management by roping in all the sponsors and creating a bio-secure environment. On the other hand, there is no such confirmation about any insurance cover for Covid-19 if a situation arises where the match is abandoned due to the coronavirus.

The Ongoing Pandemic has made the insurers to change their principles as they have excluded the communicable disease such as COVID-19 from their list. This is how everything is working in the soccer and cricket world after resuming of certain leagues.

In normal circumstances, all matches are covered by compensation in case of abandonment due to natural calamities. All IPL franchises have their own insurance agencies and premiums are in the range of Rs 3-5 crore.

“Since Covid-19 is not an unforeseen eventuality, even insurers have stopped offering compensation for all communicable diseases.” This was quoted by an official annonymously to Sportskeeda.

It is also understood that the insurance premiums of the IPL franchises have also not increased despite the tournament taking place on foreign soil as the industry experts feel that the chances of unforeseen disruptions are less in the United Arab Emirates.

Insurance agencies consider a match to be abandoned if not even a single delivery has been delivered in the game. In that case, the home side is compensated with gate receipts while both the contesting teams receive an equivalent share of the broadcast deal for that particular match.

The multi-million dollar league is set to begin on 19th September in Abu Dhabi where the Defending Champions Mumbai Indians take on the Chennai Super Kings.
