PDP, Congress supports, BJP opposes his statement
SRINAGAR : Former Chief Minister and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah today suggested the Indian government should take help of friendly countries to start talks with Pakistan to resolve cross-border firing.
His remarks came a days after India warned the neighbouring hostile country to face strong retaliation if firing and shelling is not stopped in the border areas. “Help of friendly countries should be taken to start talks to solve the issue to the earliest,” said Farooq.
“We cannot go on war. They too have atom bombs. Only talks can resolve the issue,” Abdullah added. He added, “You have to catch the bull by the horns, sometimes you have to do it.”
He also mentioned that the US President Donald Trump and China had shown interest in solving Kashmir issue.
“Trump himself had said, ‘I want to settle Kashmir problem.’ China too had said that they want to mediate in Kashmir. We didn’t ask them,” said Abdullah.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) welcomed the statement of Dr Farooq Abdullah. “Happy if Farooq Abdullah is asking for talks with Pakistan. If you want to resolve Kashmir issue there is no other way,” Peoples Democratic Party’s Sartaj Madni said.
Congress also came into the support of Farooq Abdullah, Congress vice-president GN Monga while talking to PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR said that we should start talk with Pakistan after that Kashmir issue will be solved. He said that it is the only way to solve Kashmir issue.
Meanwhile Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Forum (KTMF) President Yasin Khan, told PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR that they should have held talks with Pakistan, whatever Farooq Abdullah said we must support it and govt also start talk with Pakistan to solve long pending Kashmir issue.
JK Assembly Speaker and BJP MLA Kavinder Gupta told PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR that was the personal view of PDP what they said that Farooq Abdullah statement.
He said that PM Modi said is always ready to talk with Pakistan but they must stop terrorism. He added that congress is responsible behind destroying Kashmir, “central government will talk with Pakistan”. He added.
Meanwhile Ruhal Gandhi condemned Abdullah’s statement. “I have been asserting for long that it’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his policies at the Centre that have destroyed Jammu and Kashmir. And the point that is being mentioned that a third party’s intervention should be invited for the settlement of the issue, it’s wrong. India is Kashmir and Kashmir is India,” Rahul said on Friday.
“It’s our internal matter and no other country should have any say in it,” he added. However, BJP coalition partner has condemned Dr Abdullah’s statement.
Nirmal Singh said that, “I want to remind him when he was the CM he talked of attacking Pakistan. Why this two-faced approach?”
He added that the Prime Minister is personally monitoring the situation in Kashmir and he wants the people to prosper and tread on the path of development.
