SRINAGAR: In brazen violation of the High Court orders that prohibits movement of heavy vehicles in the city here during daytime, tippers are seen driving on the road during peak hours in Lasjin Soitang road, Jawahar Nagar and adjoin areas of Srinagar city .
Sources said there are two major reasons for the violation of the Court orders on this fashionable road, where many of the constructions are undertaken by the “influential and the moneyed people.” “Some of the tippers carrying construction material to some influential persons including politicians and officials are allowed on influence while others are made to pay chai paani,” the sources said.
From this point onwards, the tippers are allowed to move on the Soitang road depending on “bribe or influence.” Sources said it has become a “status symbol among the influential” to get construction material during daytime when the movement of heavy vehicles is actually banned.
Locals from the area of Lasjin told News agency Press Trust of Kashmir that loads of stones and gravel could be seen being taken out from the quarry in tippers and tractors in broad daylight which is a glaring example of vandalism of mountains that too under the nose of district administration.
