Srinagar: Terming the banning of Islamic TV channels like Peace TV and others as an attack on one particular religion, President, Islamic Fraternity, Muhammad Aamir, condemned the order and sought its immediate removal.
He said that the move has no logic and that it is deliberately being done to keep Muslims in Jammu & Kashmir away from Islamic teachings and knowledge delivered by many of the banned channels.
“The order has no basis. If Government of India is concerned about the continuous agitation, they should ban rather Indian electronic news channels speaking venom against Kashmiris. They are one of other reasons inciting violence here,” he said.
Aamir said that administration should come-up with reason(s) behind banning such channels otherwise; it would prove detrimental for the government and the social fabric in Jammu & Kashmir.
“Such moves accumulate the anger here. The channels like Peace TV and others were broadcasting Islamic teachings and not any political propaganda. Banning them has hurt sentiments of nearly all Muslim population in Jammu & Kashmir and outside,” he said.
He further said that the orders like above have a potential to trigger another agitation like 2010 and 2016, and cautioned administration for turning the political issues into a religious war in Kashmir.
Appealing governor to review the order, he said that it will be in the best interests of people as well as an establishment to restore the broadcasting as soon as possible.
“If the intention was to stop any threat of communal or religious tensions, the administration must either limit Indian electronic news channels here or completely ban them so that their hatred has no effect on the sensitive place like Kashmir,” he said.
Moreover, he said that a good number of cable TV channels have morally and ethically corrupted society particularly the youth of Kashmir, and requested the administration to review their broadcasting instead for the overall betterment of the society. (GNS)
