Hurriyat office found open first time after annulment of special status

Srinagar:  For the first time since the abrogation of special status in Jammu and Kashmir last year in August, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) office remained open on Friday.

  Almost all the offices pertaining to separatist organizations are shut from August last year. Official sources told Kashmir News Trust Hurriyat office located at Raj Bagh Srinagar was found open for the first time and it was attended by a couple of office bearers.

   Pertinently, APHC is led by incarcerated leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

   Pertinently, after the abrogation of special status in Jammu and Kashmir, there is almost no activity observed in different political party offices in Kashmir Valley. Some remain shut while lesser known faces attend these offices sometimes.

    Tehreek-e-Hurriyat office at Hyderpora, banned Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front office at Abizuzar are continuously found shut since August 5.

     “Almost every known face from the Hurriyat is facing detention. In such circumstances, it is difficult for the activists to attend these offices. There is zero activity on part of Hurriyat these days,” said a Hurriyat activist.

  Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Ali Geelani continue to remain under house arrest while top separatist leaders including Muhammad Yasin Malik are languishing in jails.

  After a long time in January this year, the office belonging to Jammu Kashmir Muslim Conference office located at Wazirbagh was found open.

   A couple of lesser known political faces attend PDP office opposite Sher-i-Kashmir Park here in Srinagar on daily basis. These include Nazir Ahmed Khan, Abdul Hamid Kosheen, Ali Muhammad Bhat, Muhammad Shafi Mir, Nazir Itoo and others.

   The Nawa-i-Subha office of National Conference remains abuzz with activities frequently. The incumbent Parliament members Muhammad Akbar Lone and Hasnain Masoodi do visit it and address workers.

     Sources said that the only office that was never shut in Kashmir Valley is the Jawahar Nagar based BJP office. (KNT)
